Natalie & Gaz's Liverpool Wedding | Restaurant Bar & Grill Wedding Singer

Some weddings are big, some are small, and some manage to create an atmosphere that makes you completely forget how many people are actually in the room. Natalie and Gaz's wedding dinner at Restaurant Bar & Grill in Liverpool was definitely the latter!

Their wedding ceremony had taken place earlier in the day at the beautiful St George's Hall, before they headed into the heart of Liverpool to continue their celebrations with an intimate dinner for just 20 guests. I was booked to perform during their dinner service, but there was one very important detail that made this booking slightly different... I was a complete surprise, to everyone! The guests, the groom, absolutely everyone apart from the bride knew nothing about me being there!

Naturally, this meant I had to get myself set up as incognito as possible. The wedding guests began arriving and settled outside with a drink while Natalie and Gaz were off having their photographs taken. Meanwhile, I was inside surrounded by my PA equipment, desperately trying not to look like the obvious surprise entertainment sitting in the corner!

I could see guests looking through into the room, clearly wondering who I was and why there was a full music set-up waiting for them. Somehow, I managed to maintain my cover. Then I heard it. Whooping. Cheering. The unmistakable sound of a newlywed couple making their way down Castle Street. Very Liverpool! I hadn't even seen Natalie and Gaz yet, but I knew they were on their way. As soon as I heard the cheers, I quickly started looping the introduction to Stand By Me, meaning I could begin singing the second they entered the room.

The doors opened, the newlyweds walked in, and the surprise was revealed! Thankfully, the groom was thrilled. Phew. I'd say that's probably the most important part of a surprise booking!

From Dinner Service to Party Mode

Natalie and Gaz had booked me for two 45-minute sets throughout their dinner service. The first was all about the romance, with classic love songs and beautiful ballads creating a relaxed atmosphere while everyone settled in and enjoyed their dinner.

As the mains arrived, it was time for me to take a quick water break before we moved into set two. And this is where things changed. The romantic, lovey-dovey ballads were officially over. It was time to get the party started! Now, this was a very small private dining celebration with just 20 guests, but when I tell you this room had an atmosphere, I mean it. This couple were a VIBE!

One of the sweetest moments of the entire evening came when I was introduced to young Maddie. Maddie is only 10 years old and apparently already quite the budding singer. I was told that it would be a dream if she could sing a song with me, and after getting the bride's approval, I quickly set up my spare microphone and invited her up.

And WOW.

Whenever a couple asks me to bring a guest up to sing, I absolutely love it. It's always such a lovely moment and I'm more than happy to support budding performers. Usually, it's more of a cute moment than anything else, but Maddie completely blew me away. She had the voice of an angel! I genuinely don't think I've ever heard such a mature, silky tone from someone so young. Having previously worked as a singing teacher, I feel like I've heard quite a lot of young singers over the years, so when I say she impressed me, I really mean it! Safe to say, Maddie completely stole the show. I think I might have some competition for my job in about ten years' time! It was such a wholesome moment and one that I hope Natalie, Gaz, Maddie and everyone else in that room will remember for years to come.

After that beautiful little moment, it was straight back into party mode. Before long, we had abandoned any concept of behaving ourselves and were all up dancing to Everytime We Touch by Cascada. Yes, all 20 of us. On the dining chairs - raving! (piccies for evidence below)

I told you they were a vibe!

What I loved most about this wedding was how such a small celebration could feel so completely full of energy, personality and love. There was no need for hundreds of guests or a huge dancefloor. This little private dining room was absolutely bouncing, and it was honestly one of the most memorable wedding dinner services I've performed.

Natalie and Gaz, thank you so much for having me and for trusting me with your surprise. It was an absolute pleasure to celebrate with you both, and I hope you had the most incredible night continuing the celebrations at The Shankly Hotel.

And to Maddie... watch your back, because I think you've got a career waiting for you!
