Some weddings you look forward to more than others, and Kaitlyn and Matt's was definitely one of them.

I'd been looking forward to this one for weeks because both the bride and groom had been messaging me separately, keeping secrets from one another and making sure I was in on all the plans. There was so much going on behind the scenes that I felt like I was part of a very elaborate wedding operation!

And honestly, Kaitlyn and Matt are genuinely one of the loveliest couples I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

They booked me to perform for their ceremony and drinks reception at the beautiful Coton House Farm, and their ceremony was one I don't think I'll ever forget.

The Groom's Secret Entrance

This was a first for me, the groom wanted his own entrance!

Matt spent the time before the ceremony standing at the entrance to the venue, welcoming his guests as they arrived and directing them towards the ceremony area. What he didn't do was actually enter the ceremony himself.

Somehow, nobody seemed to notice, the secret was still intact. Once everyone was seated and I got the nod from the registrar, it was game time.

Matt entered alongside his groomsmen to Whatta Man by Salt-N-Pepa.

And what a man he is! It was nothing short of epic and had the entire room giggling as he made his way down the aisle. Once he reached the front, the custom sunglasses came off and it was time for the real moment of the ceremony… The bride was coming.

The Aisle Song That Nearly Got Me

Now, this was the biggest secret of all. Kaitlyn had been keeping a voice note recording of their youngest completely top secret, and she had asked me to incorporate it into her aisle song. I edited the voice note over the introduction to Chelsea Johnson's version of You To Me Are Everything, creating a completely bespoke entrance track that was incredibly personal to Kaitlyn and Matt. Knowing the meaning behind the recording made it even more special, but the real challenge was actually performing it without crying!

I'd spent the previous two weeks listening to the voice note and the song repeatedly in an attempt to completely desensitise myself before the big day. I wanted to make sure I could actually sing the song when the moment came. Then the moment arrived, I pressed play. Matt had absolutely no idea what was coming. My eyes were firmly on him while everyone else turned towards the doors, and when the voice note started, the reaction on his face was everything. - it hit him like a ton of bricks. Seeing his reaction, along with all of their loved ones watching on, I won't lie, it almost got me too. Somehow, I managed to keep it together!

It was honestly one of the most beautiful and wholesome aisle walks I've ever been part of, and a perfect example of why I love working with couples to create personalised wedding ceremony music. It wasn't just an aisle song. It was a moment that belonged completely to them and their family, and it was beautiful.

Bubbles, Love Songs and a Very Generous Wedding Meal

After the ceremony, Kaitlyn and Matt exited to the classic Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer, accompanied by the most fabulous bubble machines. Now, to say that I was "attacked" by the bubbles would definitely be an over exaggeration….

But to say that I got bubbles in my mouth while trying to sing would be completely accurate. New occupational hazard found! Despite my ongoing battle with the bubbles, they looked absolutely gorgeous and made for such a fun photo opportunity as everyone celebrated the newlyweds.

Because Kaitlyn and Matt had chosen a later ceremony and weren't following a traditional wedding day structure, we split their drinks reception entertainment into two separate sections. I performed a 45-minute set of classic, slower love songs immediately after the ceremony, creating a relaxed atmosphere while everyone enjoyed the celebrations.

Then I had a little break.

And treated myself to some food.

Now, I never expect to be fed at weddings, especially because I'm that awkward person who comes with dietary requirements. But Kaitlyn and Matt had gone completely out of their way to make sure there was something for me to eat.

And when I say they fed me, they FED me.

I'm coeliac, so gluten free options at weddings can sometimes be a little limited, and I'm usually more than happy with whatever I can find - not today.

Today I had not one, but two gluten free hot dogs AND an entire full-size gluten free pizza.

Wow doesn't even begin to describe, It was AMAZING, safe to say, I was very well looked after!

From Newlyweds to Dancefloor Chaos

With a full belly and plenty of energy restored, it was time for my final 45-minute set. This one was considerably more upbeat.

And this is probably the best way I can describe the atmosphere...

Picture this.

You've just got married and you're dancing with the love of your life. Your first dance hasn't even happened yet because, quite frankly, we decided to have a little fun first. Your children are breakdancing on the floor around you, your guests are throwing themselves into the party, and your wedding singer is somehow doing the conga around the room.

That was the snapshot of Kaitlyn and Matt's wedding. It was completely chaotic in the best possible way, ridiculously fun and so full of personality.

There was no pressure for the day to follow a traditional wedding format. Instead, everything was built around what felt right for them, and I think that is exactly what made it so special.

Thank you for trusting me with all of your secrets, for letting me be part of such a personal ceremony, for feeding me what may genuinely be the best wedding supplier meal I've ever had, and for creating such a fun and wholesome atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

You really were the loveliest couple, and I feel so lucky to have been part of your day.

I then enjoyed my leftover pizza on the drive home, and it's safe to say I went to bed with a very full stomach and an even fuller heart.
