Kat & Joe’s Wedding at Ghyll Barn | Full Day Wedding Singer in The Lake District
Today’s blog post is going to walk you through my FULL DAY booking with Kat and Joe at the beautiful Ghyll Barn, so strap in…
My day actually began the night before. This booking was treated very much like the first day back at school. Bags packed, car loaded, outfits steamed and hanging neatly on the wardrobe door, ready for a very early start the following morning.
Kat and Joe had booked me for their full wedding day, and with an 11am ceremony and a two-hour drive ahead of me, it was an early start at Vocals By Britt HQ.
I arrived at Ghyll Barn in the North Lakes at 9:30am to get my bearings and begin setup. As this was a new venue for me, I had liaised with the owners beforehand and already knew this was going to be a big setup day.
With that in mind, I packed the car with almost every piece of PA equipment I own… which, trust me, is quite a lot.
Knowing I needed to be flexible throughout the day, I decided to set up two separate PA systems across the venue. My larger setup was positioned in the wedding breakfast and evening reception space, while my portable Bose system was based in the ceremony barn.
Days like this are exactly why I am such an over-preparer when it comes to sound equipment and wireless microphone options. People often ask me why I own so many different setups, and honestly, this wedding is the perfect example of why.
When I am performing across multiple parts of a wedding day, the last thing I want to be worrying about is sound levels, moving equipment, or packing down and rebuilding setups between performances. As a solo performer, that process can take time, and during your wedding day, my focus should be entirely on the atmosphere, the guests, and the performance itself.
So naturally, this meant one thing… live wireless microphones and sound setups across the entire venue.
This allowed me to move seamlessly throughout the day and adapt quickly whenever plans shifted.
Kat and Joe were incredibly relaxed throughout the entire day, and with the weather firmly on our side, several moments that had originally been planned indoors were moved outside into the venue’s stunning outdoor space.
Thankfully, because my setup was fully flexible and wireless, I could simply follow the guests and continue performing wherever the day naturally took us.
So, the day began with their ceremony, obviously.
And for anyone planning a wedding in the Lake District and looking for an intimate, relaxed venue, I strongly urge you to check out Ghyll Barn. Their ceremony setup takes place inside the main barn outbuilding and it is absolutely stunning. The acoustics in there were unbelievable.
Although the venue itself is intimate, Kat and Joe were certainly not short of guests, and the ceremony barn was absolutely packed, with people squeezing in wherever possible.
Honestly, it created the most beautiful atmosphere. Warm, emotional, personal, and full of love.
Our gorgeous bride, Kat, is a huge Lana Del Rey fan, so naturally she chose Young and Beautiful for her aisle song, which may genuinely be one of my favourite songs to perform during a ceremony.
After a beautiful service, the newlyweds exited to the Shrek classic Accidentally In Love, which was a first for me and something I very much hope is not the last.
Because the venue was so intimate, we had agreed beforehand that I would continue straight into another upbeat song after the recessional to soundtrack their confetti moment outside, and honestly, it worked perfectly.
So off we all went, me included, portable wireless PA in hand, following guests outside and seamlessly transitioning straight into their drinks reception set.
Guests even commented on how smooth and professional it all felt, while watching me waddling about ten yards behind everyone still singing, speaker in hand!
A tear-jerking ceremony followed by a sunny outdoor drinks reception soundtracked by modern country music was honestly the perfect combination. Kat and Joe are huge Zach Bryan fans, and I have to admit, they have definitely converted me.
Before long, it was time to head back inside for the next part of the day.
The couple had chosen a selection of amazing food suppliers, all of whom I will tag below, bringing a relaxed food truck-style vibe to Ghyll Barn.
Guests took their seats for the wedding breakfast before Kat and Joe made an EPIC entrance to Get Jiggy With It by Will Smith.
Table by table, guests were invited up to collect their food while I accompanied the atmosphere with some slower, more background-style songs, including a little reenactment of the bridal entrance.
You absolutely need to watch the footage of this on my Instagram.
I then took a quick break to grab some food myself and, as many of you may know from following along, I am coeliac, so I am always incredibly grateful when suppliers accommodate gluten free meals so thoughtfully.
The Spitting Roast absolutely delivered, complete with gluten free buns and everything. Amazing food, lovely girls, highly recommend.
After a quick outfit change, it was time to transition into the evening portion of the day.
Goodbye maxi dress… hello sequins.
Kat and Joe did not want to make a huge formal moment out of their first dance, so instead, we built it naturally into the end of my second wedding breakfast set once everyone was up on their feet and the food had settled.
We gathered everyone into a circle around the room with the newlyweds front and centre, before inviting guests to join in from the first chorus onwards so everyone could celebrate together.
And from there… we went straight into party mode.
Banger after banger, the dancefloor stayed full.
I then took one final short break to rehydrate before heading into the final live set of the day.
Now, I always let my couples handpick the songs they love, before weaving them together into a carefully structured setlist that flows naturally throughout the evening.
For the final set, we saved all the alternative throwbacks for what we affectionately named “Emo Hour”.
From Nickelback to Avril Lavigne, trust me when I say this was a VIBE.
Eventually, I handed over to the evening band who continued the celebrations late into the night.
WHAT. A. DAY.
I absolutely love being part of a full wedding day and celebrating alongside my couples from beginning to end. By the time I left, I honestly felt more like a friend than a supplier, which truly is the dream.
Kat and Joe, thank you so much for trusting me to be part of such an incredible day.
