How to Choose Your Aisle Song: Finding the Perfect Song for the Biggest Moment of Your Wedding Day
If there's one question I'm asked time and time again as a wedding singer, it's this…
"How do we choose our aisle song?"
With thousands of beautiful songs to choose from, it's no surprise that deciding can feel a little overwhelming. After all, your aisle song is more than just music. It's the soundtrack to one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of your wedding day.
The good news? There isn't a right or wrong choice.
After performing at weddings across the North West, I've seen couples choose everything from timeless classics to modern love songs, and every single one has been perfect because it meant something to them.
Here are my top tips to help you find the song that's right for your day.
Think about the feeling you want to create
Before you even start scrolling through Spotify playlists, ask yourselves one simple question:
How do we want this moment to feel?
Do you imagine something...
Romantic and emotional?
Relaxed and intimate?
Uplifting and joyful?
Modern and understated?
Timeless and elegant?
The feeling you're trying to create is often more important than the song itself.
Choose a song that means something to you
Some couples choose the song they first danced to in the kitchen together. Others choose the soundtrack to their first date, a favourite artist or simply a song they've always loved.
Don't feel pressured to pick the latest trending wedding song if it doesn't feel like you.
The most memorable ceremonies are always the ones that reflect the couple's personalities.
Don't worry about what's "traditional"
One of my favourite things about modern weddings is that there really aren't any rules anymore.
You don't have to walk down the aisle to classical music unless you want to.
Whether your dream entrance is accompanied by an acoustic version of a chart hit, an indie favourite, a Disney classic or a timeless ballad, your ceremony should feel authentic to your relationship.
Consider a live acoustic version
A song can feel completely different when it's performed live.
Live music naturally adapts to the pace of your walk, creates a beautifully intimate atmosphere and adds emotion that recorded music simply can't replicate.
Many couples are surprised by how personal their favourite song feels when it's stripped back into an acoustic performance.
Think about the length of your aisle
This is something many couples don't consider until much later.
A grand staircase and long aisle will need more music than a short walk into a smaller ceremony room.
Don't worry too much about timings though. As your wedding singer, I'll work with your celebrant or registrar and naturally adapt the performance so the music fits the moment perfectly.
Listen to the lyrics
It's easy to fall in love with a melody, but don't forget to listen carefully to the lyrics too.
Most love songs are exactly that... but some have verses about heartbreak, distance or endings that often go unnoticed until someone points them out.
It's always worth giving the full song another listen before making your final decision.
Trust your instincts
If you keep coming back to the same song, there's usually a reason.
Don't overthink it.
The song that gives you goosebumps now will probably give you goosebumps on your wedding day too.
